Hello all!

As we are getting ready to expand Project DIBS beyond the Houston area, please feel free to post suggestions on how we can grow the community.

I have already partnered with Addictive Aquatics and TalkingReef and they will be helping with spreading the word of Project DIBS.

But each member can also help out by suggesting people that you think would be interested in being part of Project DIBS. Please list any people you feel would be excellent members of Project DIBS here or you can contact me by PM.

please list their first name only, login or username and what discussion board they frequent the most.

Thanks,

Brian

I talked to Kelsey about it. She is rockdr on Marsh. She just upgraded to a 200 and is quite knowledgable about reefs and systems. I sent her to your site the other day and told her to join. She is excited about it.

Mel,

I am having some problems logging into Addictive Aquatics and Jamie and I haven't figured out why yet. I would appreciate it if you could post those 3 guys info again.

Thanks,

Brian

The newest member, robharold, is from the LaReefClub.com with the same name. I saw a post he had over there about some Cerith snails that are breeding in his tank. They have a pretty active reef club in Louisiana and he might be a really good addition to the group.

It looks like they have some good members over in LA, thanks for the suggestion.

Since I'm a member of LARC, I put a post on that site to bring some attention to Project DIBS. Looks like they made it a 'sticky': http://www.lareefclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4612

Jeff,

Fabulous post, I need to make a new usergroup "PR GUYS" and put you and jnarowe as the leaders :) I like how your club makes it a sticky instead of deleting it like larger forums have done.

So just an FYI about posting on reef clubs, if you are a member of the reef club and you think they are progressive, then posting is a great idea, you could even ask an Admin or Moderator first if it would be OK to post, they tend to like that.

But we should not post any threads on the larger forums just yet (ReefCentral, ReefFrontiers, the nano forum, etc). jnarowe and I have both had threads deleted as commercial and we don't want any DIBS members being banned from the larger boards and giving DIBS a bad name. Project DIBS approach is fairly different from most other organizations and it is possible to think Project DIBS is commercial at first glance. It will take a more in depth look for people to realize we are anything BUT commercial.

Again, fabulous post Jeff and I think if people just ask reef club Admins or Mods if it is OK to post, we can get stickies up all over the country in short order :)

Jeff,

Since you a known member over there, could you also post that I would be willing to present at their local reef club monthly meeting as a guest speaker? It would be very easy for me to drive over there and I only charge a small speaker fee + expenses and would bring inverts for them to raffle off to potential breeders. With LA being so close, it should be a cheap guest speaker for them.

You can post a link to my talk at MARSH if they want details:

Brian - One step ahead of you! I did send the post via PM to the moderator to make sure it was OK. He was all for it and gave his approval.

I think your idea of not "spamming" clubs is a good one. Your articles on RK magazine has given a lot a credibility to this group. I think you'll find more 'stickys' on more forums as time goes on.

Smart thinking Jeff, PR GUY :D, seriously, PMing a Admin or Mod about guest speaking is also probably the best way to go now that you commented about that.

Why don't you join the forum (it's free)... drop a post on the sticky? Get some interest in this group and then I'll bring it up to the admin/mods about you guest speaking after the word gets out a little more.

Right now I think only 3 of them have signed up (not counting me). We really need one of the board members onboard to get them going strong.

Brian,

Here is another opportunity for you to educate some reefers (and they mentioned you by name): http://www.marshreef.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=20250&highlight=

Anyhow... no one explains this stuff better than you! ;)

Well, I can think of a few hundred thousand people that could explain things better than me, with Dr Shimek being on the top of that list, but thanks for the complement :)

I have replied to the best of my knowledge, but I know I left a couple of things out I didn't take the time to research :)
