Hey all,

Some good news for the Philippines:

Home of the giant clams (http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/breakingnews/regions/view_article.php?article_id=92113)

Chuck, how far is this from you?

I am always so happy to hear of such news as I am finding out little by little that the Philippines does a lot more for the reefs than I had ever imagined. Sadly though, a great deal of the time it appears that funding always seems to run out or is hard to come by. A great many local communities usualy take sections of their reefs and self designate them as protected as more and more such communities figure out that ecotourism generates a lot of money.
The site mentioned in the article is on the main island of Luzon (largest island to the north) and is about an hour or more jet ride from where I am on the island of Cebu (actualy mactan but its too small for reference..lol)
