Hey DIBSianssss!
We have begun to put together a list of suggested books that are important to Project DIBS members. We have organized them into three broad categories:
Amazon books: Understanding the Environment, Invertebrates and Coral Reefs
This section contains books suggested by our invertebrate experts in the project. Little breeding information can be found in these books, but they can provide you with an excellent background on what a coral reef IS and how they function, along with our interactions with the environment in general.
Amazon books: Books Important to Breeding Invertebrates with Project DIBS
This section contains books that are considered the best books currently available through Amazon.com for information on breeding invertebrates or setting up breeding systems. For Breeders, these will be the most important books, other than the Strathmann text.
Purchases done through the Amazon suggested reading page are the same price as found on Amazon.com, but a small portion of the sale is returned to the DIBS Foundation to support our ongoing operations. So it is a win-win for everyone involved!
Books Unavailable through Amazon.com
The first book, Strathmann, is considered the bible of invertebrate breeding. If anyone is serious about any invertebrates, except corals, then this is the book you should consider. It is available through the University of Washington press. The DIBS Foundation does not receive a commission on this book.
The second book, by Dirk Peterson, is considered the best available source for breeding of corals, specifically brooding corals. Many excellent techniques and methods are explained in the book, many of which are required for success with brooding corals. This book is only available for purchase through the DIBS Foundation in the USA. Please PM Brian about availability.
