Hey all,
We have a couple Canon Powershot A470 that were used in the high school experiment last year. They have a Super Macro mode that is pretty powerful. I will be playing around with it over the next few months.
Anyone want to guess what this is?

Nanno algae
Well the little green flecks in the picture are algae, but I was referring to the white substance.

Couldn't even guess, really.

I thought this one would be easier. Another hint, it is something desirable that grows in our tanks.

Is it a Bacteria or a worm or some other scavenger?

Is it like a snails foot or radula. Ooo a word for the pop up thingy.
Or could it be the underside of a newly settled planulae.

OK, enough guesses are close enough to "call" this one.
The white substance is a coral skeleton, it is the underside of a coral growing on my front glass. It is Pocillopora damicornis and has been slowly spreading on the glass the last two years or so. Each little "tick" in the white substance is where a polyp lives on the other side of the coral.
As soon as I get home I will upload a picture of the coral using the regular setting on the camera, then it will be very clear to everyone.

Hey all,
Sorry, but the full picture of the P. damicornis was lost. I will attempt to take a new picture soon.
In the meantime, here is another picture to identify. This picture was taken through our Nikon Labophot-2 microscope at 400x. I guess the "macro lens" on the microscope is better than the macro on the digital camera.
Anyone have guesses on this one?

Are the golden brown cells Isochrysis?

nope.
Hint, there are algae in there, and very well known ones, but they aren't the "colored" things, and the colored things aren't really colored - its an optical illusion due to refraction but, in other species, they can actually be colored.

Ton,
This does not look related to this thread. What "Super Macro" are you referring to? How is it related to a druid?
