These are from a business trip I took to Atlanta this past May, and I just want to say up front that the pics aren't that great. It was a bit dark in the place, and in general flash photography there is discouraged. That being said, that place is awesome. It certainly does not disappoint. It's by far the nicest aquarium facility I've ever visited. Anyway, I thought that I'd share just in case some of you hadn't yet had the chance to visit the place.

Interesting take. What other public aquariums have you been to and what about this one struck you as being the best?

Well, being from Northern California, I've been to the Monterey Bay Aquarium countless times (I have a membership there), as well as numerous trips to the Steinhart Aquarium at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. Last year I went to the Seattle Aquarium. Prior to that I visited the Waikiki Aquarium, the Maui Ocean Center, and the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. That's all I can recall at the moment, but it seems like I'm leaving a few out...

I was most impressed with the layout and design of the displays in Georgia. For example, there was a digital display next to their main reef tank where you could click on particular fish in order to get more detailed information with regard to that fish and its natural habitat. And, I have to admit that the whale sharks were rather impressive as well. I'd never seen them in person prior to that and they were awe-inspiring. Basically, it just looked as though they put a lot of thought into the design of the displays themselves. Most of them were much larger than displays I've seen elsewhere, and they seemed much more natural in general. I talked to Matt Wandell, from the Steinhart Aquarium, about the place as well since he was there at the same time that I happened to be there, and he felt the same way. Of course, he got a better behind the scenes tour than I, but he said that their filtration and display maintenance areas were the most impressive he'd ever seen.

Thanks for the response. I was curious. It's not my favorite by a long shot for a number of reasons. I agree on the traffic flow, and the quality of the equipment behind the scenes.

Now you have me curious Eric,

What are your top 5 & why?

Great pics BTW, a trip to the GA is on my list to do.
