I just thought i would post my findings for everyone. Maybe people knew about this and i was in the dark or maybe this is a cool finding. We'll see :)

I don't have a lot of algae in my new tank so i decided to see if i could find a substitute for the snails and the crabs. Well i think i found it. They are called Seaweed Selects. Here is a picture of the package.

Now another reason why i wanted to try this is for the DIBS Turbo snails. I have seen one graze on the algae sheet but i couldn't get a good picture, however i did get a picture of my other snails eating it and loving it. The peace they are eating on is about an inch by 2 inches. Between these two snails, a crab and my peppermint shrimp they had it gone within two hours.. Here are more pictures..

I'm going to have to give this a shot, I've been meaning to try that algae anyway. I purchased some Nori sheets from the asian grocery mart and nothing in my tank touched them.

Yea, I think Im going to take out one of my veterans and place it inside of a 5 gallon tank with seaweed on one side and a rock covered in algae and see what happens. Or something like that i haven't really thought about it yet. The little snail in the picture never left the sheet and had it gone in no time. I think i might try it again tomorrow and see what happens. Ill keep everyone updated on how i do it and what happens..

Brian I'm curious if you have similar results with the Seaweed Select?

Also what species of snails seem to be attracted to the algae sheets?

I completely forgot that I had these algae sheets, they were buried in my supply cabinet. I just put my first sheet into the tank 2 minutes ago, I'll update later once I see snails converging on it.

I frequently feed it to my herbivore fish, and havent noticed any snails gathering around it. I feed both the green and red. The red is supposed to softer, and more easily eaten by fish with more tender mouth parts. One curious observation I've made is that my columbellids enjoy gathering around my pulsing xenia when its allowed to grow onto the glass.
