Have we seen the mini brittles pictured in this thread yet? I've allready PM'd both posters in the thread.

Thanks, I made a small comment, but I'll let you handle the PMs, let us know how it goes.

The guy with the brown stars is probably Amp sp #1, the picture is most likely Oph #3 or a similar species.

Cheers,

Brian

Zenya, who replied to thread has Pm'd me she is willing to let as many as I want go, and I think she/he will be joining us here. Man I hate winter now, I'm almost tempted to drive down and get them, it's only 12 hours round trip.

Or if he/she does join us and can send me some (sounds like it is a large population) then I can get them and include them in your shipment, once it gets warmer!

Looks like maybe starting to warm up a bit this coming week with highs in the mid to upper 30's. Springs coming.

Brian, Have you ever thought about heat packs? We get them with our shipments at work in every box. The temp we receive is usually around 70 degree. Just a thought that im sure has been thought about before :)

Yes, I have tested several heat packs and so far the results have been mixed. So far the 18 hour heat packs have been pretty good, but don't last 18 hours. I have just started testing a 60 hour heat pack, so we'll see how that one does.

But no matter what size heat packs are included, water volume is very critical. Since we are trying to keep shipping prices reasonable we are sticking to around 3-4 Liters of water. That volume of water, even with heat packs, can't stay warm when the outside temperature is below 40F. We are also trying to find better insulating materials as well, so the heat pack doesn't have to fight the outside temps as much.

What brand of heat pack do you receive in your shipments? We are always looking to improve our heat packs.

This just came to mind, up here where it gets cold Walmart sells electric socks. These usually run on an 9 volt battery. I have actually never used them, and I have no idea how long the battery might last. Then there's the issue of how hot they get. Might have to check them out.

Check these out. http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?cmView=full&type=pod&id=0005479

If you read the reviews some indicate that they dont feel like they're working, but compared to reguler socks then yes there is a difference. This might indicate that they dont run very hot. Still dont know how long the battery lasts, and they are reuasable just add fresh batteries. I think they might be worthy of testing.

Im not sure the brand of the packs but i will try and find out. When we get them they are still pretty hot and they are about the size of a bean bag that you throw. Sorry for the bad example lol.

I have used the socks. ( well tried too ) they don't work very well, well on your feet anyways. If i can remember how to do this we can make our own. In shop class when i was school 92-93 we had the chance to make something that we wanted and i made a sandwhich warmer. Is was a crued design but it worked and it was cheap and easy. Ill see if i can make something small and quick and maybe ill send brian a bag of ohio water :) lol

Those are a possibility, but a bit pricey. I've started finding better heat packs on the Internet, just need to find time to test them. Here is a 24 hour one that might be adequate:

I'll probably order a box of those and test them out. I'm also currently testing a 60 hour pack and we'll see how it does first.
