Hello all,
The DIBS Foundation has a series of volunteer committees designed to focus on specific goals of the Foundation. We have an opening on our Outreach committee that we would like to fill with one qualified individual. The goals of the Outreach committee are:
1. To produce The DIBSian, the
Project DIBS newsletter.
2. To produce educational materials related to ocean literacy, coral
reef decline and the marine ornamentals industry.
The Outreach committee is currently designed as a four person committee composed of myself as the Chair, Andy Berry from Colorado as the newsletter editor, a Sound Designer and Visual Media Specialist.
We are starting to gear up for a new series of videos to be produced by The DIBS Foundation. There will be two primary series to begin with:
1. Educational outreach videos that will be used by The DIBS Foundation to educate the general public and hobbyists on the threats to coral reefs and promoting ocean literacy.
2. Videos created to introduce the same topics and related topics to K-12 administrators, teachers and school children.
We currently need to fill our Sound Designer position. This is a volunteer position with the following duties:
Sound Designer Job Description:
The The Sound Designer will assist the Outreach Committee in finding and reporting the location of and possibly downloading public-domain and royalty-free audio. This will typically be music and sound effects, but may include other types on demand. This audio will then be used to enhance The DIBS Foundation videos.
Job Duties:
1. Search the Internet for audio files needed for upcoming video projects. Some audio files with just general requirements will need to be found, along with specific files to meet a specific need.
2. Maintain an Excel (or equivalent) spreadsheet that records the title of the track, who created it, the exact location (URL) where it was found and if permission to use the track is needed.
3. In the case of files where permission is needed, the Sound Designer will notify me of this requirement and contact the author for permission to use the file.
4. Initially I will work with you closely to determine the types of music that best suit Foundation video, but you will be expected to work independently an average of 20-30 minutes a week locating audio files. This is just an average, so if you end up spending 6 hours one day locating files, then you will not need to work for several weeks. The important point is that steady production (as in finding files) is required.
Job Benefits:
1. You get to find and listen to a lot of great music, this job is designed for people that like finding and downloading royalty-free music from the Internet from places such as

2. As soon as The DIBS Foundation obtains 501(c)(3) status, it will be considered a public charity and you will be considered a volunteer employee. If you need a reference for future non-profit positions then I will be happy to provide an honest assessment of your contributions to The DIBS Foundation in the form a letter of recommendation or through a phone interview if required.
3. If needed, we can provide an email address from @dibsfoundation.org when contacting authors is needed.
4. Listing of your name and location on
The DIBS Foundation Community page.
5. Your name will be listed as "Sound Designer" on all videos created using the audio files you locate for the Foundation.
Position Duration:
This position will be an initial one year term. At the end of the year we will discuss if you want to continue or relinquish the position so it can be filled by another person. The position begins Jan 1, 2008 and ends Dec 31st, 2008.
