Replace your old roof or buy a new one that is white!

Hey all,

Our next house will have a white roof, if we can get past HOA restrictions!, in order to reduce the cost of the roof, reduce the heat stress on our house, reduce our electricity bills, and help reduce global climate change.

A little information here:
http://getenergysmartnow.com/2008/09...lobal-warming/

In some parts of the country it is actually cheaper to install a white roof than a standard black shingle roof, yet few people are calling for them. Be the first in your neighborhood to have a white roof

I just heard my first commercial for white roofing on the radio yesterday, so maybe Houston area builders will start building white roofed homes?

I just saw a white metal roof on a home near us! We took the tax deduction for energy efficiency last year when we had to replace out heat pump and you could only take it once in 2009-2010. If Congress renews it for 2011 we are going to install an energy efficient metal roof.

Carmie,

Sounds great, keep in mind that the energy efficient metal roofs are not as good as the composite materials roofs. Make sure you read up on that as they can make a new roof install even more energy efficient than the metal ones.

Thanks, we will do the research. I wonder if the composite roof stains like asphalt shingles do?
